Carmina non dant panem / pacem
The ancient Latin saying sees the letter N of the word panem replaced by a C with a manual movement. The expression therefore becomes “Carmina non dant pacem”. The change of consonant determines a double reading: poetry does not generate wealth (poetry does not give bread), but also almost always arises from restlessness and pain (poetry does not give peace)
