In the cycle “Grazie dei fiori” Gian Marco Montesano chooses to paint flowers at the height of their freshness.
A reassuring sight, which lightens and pacifies the soul of the beholder.
Always associated with icons and religious practices, flowers are at the same time fixed points of the collective imagination and popular aesthetics.
Over the years they have filled brochures and have been evoked in musical refrains, emblem of the Italian musical festival par excellence, Sanremo.
But for Montesano, who uses painting as a tool for historical investigation and memory recovery, these flowers are ghost images that come from the memories of a lost childhood innocence that contrast with the many “monsters” of adulthood.
